Detection of Metallic Internal Defects by PVDF Sensor

In this paper, an experimental method based on PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) piezoelectric film sensor is presented to detect the metallic internal defects. All parts are detailed introduced. PVDF piezoelectric film sensor is designed to detect the longitudinal wave signal and the reflected echo signal. It is composed of PVDF piezoelectric film, output aluminum electrodes and charge amplifier circuit. Ultrasonoscope directly stimulates the longitudinal wave signal which propagates in the aluminum sample, when it encounters the defect, the reflected echo signal will emerge. PVDF piezoelectric film sensor detects the longitudinal wave signal and the reflected echo signal. Then they are displayed in the digital oscilloscope. Through analyse and calculate we can get the information of sample internal defects from the digital oscilloscope. The experimental results show that the method is suitable to detect the internal defects of metallic sample.
