A Low Complexity Deblocking Filter for H.264/AVC

In this paper, we propose a method to reduce the computational complexity of in-loop deblocking filter which is applied in H.264/AVC to remove blocking artifacts. In the proposed method, we utilize the correlation between vertical and horizontal boundaries of a block to adaptively filter horizontal boundaries. Experimental results show that the proposed method can reduce the computational complexity of deblocking filter by 31% to 38% while maintaining compatible subjective quality compared to the conventional in-loop deblocking filter.
