A Block Based Explicit DC Offset for H.264/AVC Video Coding
In video coding standard such as H.264/AVC, inter picture prediction takes advantage of temporal redundancy between neighboring pictures to achieve video compression. This paper presents a block based Explicit DC offset to explore spatial correlation between spatially neighboring blocks for inter picture prediction and to enhance coding efficiency performance of H.264/AVC. The proposed method applies the rate distortion optimized DC offset to inter picture prediction residue at macroblock level and encodes the offset with Huffman coding. Simulation results report that the proposed method yields an average of 3.91% bit rate reduction for high resolution video over the H.264 baseline profile.
