Coarse Timing Synchronization Algorithm for OFDM Systems in SFN Channels
For a channel with large and strong delay profiles such as in the single frequency network (SFN), orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system suffers from timing synchronization errors. In this paper, we propose a timing synchronization scheme based on the delay profile identification technique which can effectively estimate optimal symbol start position in SFN channel. To avoid an ambiguity in the selection of correct initial CIR due to wrong symbol start position, null estimation algorithm is employed. The proposed null estimation algorithm utilizes the regularity of the frequency response envelope relationship within different paths of the multipath OFDM signal, and covers up to the power of pre-echo signal lower than 12dB compared with the main signal power. The simulation result verifies that the proposed method successfully keeps track of the optimal symbol start position in the SFN channel under the long echo signal with various powers.
