Mitigation of Short through Problem in AC/AC Chopper

This paper discusses a new approach to improve the EMI characteristics of buck-ac Chopper. Conventionally line voltage detection based switching algorithm is utilized for this purpose. New switching strategy for PWM AC chopper has important advantages compared with voltage detecting method, such as, high reliability, low harmonics, and high efficiency. Besides, it can avoid short-through problem which is inherent in conventional method in case of false zero crossing detection. Both methods are analyzed and verified through simulation in the MATLAB. After comparing the results, the advantage has been shown clearly. Besides, experimental verification also has been done using laboratory prototype system.
