Simulation Study an Terahertz Wave Generation Via Optical Rectification in Nonlinear Crystals
We overview terahertz (THz) wave generation via optical rectification (OR) in nonlinear crystals. First, a theoretical analysis of optical rectification is presented. Then we discuss the effect of parameters such as dispersion, absorption and crystal length on generated terahertz waves by using simulations based on one-dimensional propagation equations of Maxwell in nonlinear mediums. Finally we simulate THz generation in periodically poled GaAs. Simulation results confirm that quasi-phase-matching is satisfactorily provided in periodically poled crystals for generating tunable multi-cycle terahertz pulses.
