Innovation Pedagogy and Improving Quality in Higher Education in Web-Based Environments

Innovation is one of the main objectives for the higher education to meet the global challenges and to deliver the high levels of sustainable, knowledgebased growth. It is crucial to promote innovative pedagogy and improve quality. Based on the study of teaching programmes, pedagogies, web-based course management system and quality assurance system in engineering education at Umea University, an innovative technology, Outcome-Based Approach, used in teaching at Ume(a) University is presented in this paper. The pedagogical experimentation taken by faculty teaching signal and system is described. Where the approach is successful is highlighted. The process of periodic review and revision of curricula is illustrated. The systematic quality work at Umea University is described. Finally, some inspirations are drawn.
