Experimental Study on Sodium Bicarbonate Inhibiting Spontaneous Combustion of Remaining Coal in Goaf

Coal seam spontaneous combustion is one of the major disasters in coal mine. Inhibitor and extinguishing technology of carbon dioxide have been widely used in coal spontaneous combustion treatment Basic researches on sodium bicarbonate decomposing to produce carbondioxide and inhibiting spontaneous combustion of remaining coal have not been sufficient Programmed temperature system and gas chromatography and other equipments were used in this experiment to analyze the influence law of sodium bicarbonate on inhibiting the process of oxidation and spontaneous combustion. The results show that, the existence of sodium bicarbonate could decrease the oxygen consumption rate in the process of coal spontaneous combustion and carbon monoxide production rate. When temperature was between 100 and 110X3, carbon dioxide, produced by sodium bicarbonate thermal decomposition, could inhibit the spontaneous combustion process of coal. While the temperature ranged from 140 to 220°C, thermal decomposition of sodium bicarbonate was violent, and the inhibitory effect was particularly significant. This experiment has provided relevant basic data for further revealing the prevention and extinguishment mechanism of sodium bicarbonate, and also theoretical basis has been provided for development and application of fire preventing and extinguishing technology through using bicarbonate.
