A DISTRIBUTED COAXIAL CABLE SENSOR FOR CRACK DETECTION
Crack is very important even determined to structural safety and it is still urgent to develop an effective method for detecting crack in practice. Based on the electrical time domain reflectometry (ETDR) technique, this paper proposed a novel distributed coaxial cable sensor for crack detection through caving spiral groove on an outer tube conductor and its sensing properties were investigated through the prototype experiments in the laboratory. The experimental results indicated that the reflection coefficients of this sensor were linear to the crack width with a jumping point and also this sensor distinguished multi-cracks effectively.
