RESEARCH ON DYNAMIC SOIL-PILED RAFT FOUNDATION-SUPERSTRUCTURE INTERACTION

In order to study the effect of the raft on dynamic soil-piled raft foundation-superstructure interaction, a numerical model for full 3D dynamic soil-structure interaction is developed using the thin layered element method and the finite element method. Some important data for piled raft foundation such as impedance functions, effective input motions and dynamic responses of superstructure are compared with those for pile group and raft foundation. The results show that the horizontal impedance function and the natural frequency of the soil-structure system for the piled raft foundation are very approximate to those for the raft foundation, but the vertical and rocking impedance functions and effective input motions are approximate to those for the pile group. The effect of the raft on the soilstructure interaction can not be neglected, especially when the pile spacing is relatively large.
