DEFORMATION AND STRESS REDISTRIBUTION OF SRC COLUMNS UNDER LONG-TERM AXIAL COMPRESSION
Based on the ACT 209 method for predicting the creep and shrinkage of concrete, a study is conducted using age-adjusted effective modulus method to evaluate the deformation and stress redistribution of the long-term axially loaded steel reinforced concrete (SRC) columns. The analysis indicates that the deformation and stress redistribution caused by the creep and shrinkage develop quickly in the early loading phase, and reaches almost constant after about one year. The stress redistribution usually leads to remarkable increase of the steel stress in the column. Hence much attention should be paid to the long-term loading effect in design practice. In addition, the parameter study shows that the age of concrete at first loading and the loading magnitude have much effect on the long-term behavior of SRC columns.
