A Mechanism of Local Amplifying Zone in Attenuation of Ground Vibration Caused by Rail Traffic in Urban Area
Local amplifying zone has been reported in some papers on attenuation of rail traffic in -duced ground vibration for years. The mechanism of this phenomena is simulated in this paper by calculating vertical ground displacement caused from a rectangular load with transfer matrix method in frequency domain. The ground is modeled as a single soil layer overlaid on an elastic half -space. The attenuation tendency of the vertical displacement is summed up from the results of cases of combinations of various model parameters and frequencies of cyclic loading. The results show that the location and degree of the amplifying are controlled by the ratio between shear modulus of the half space and the single layer , the thickness and damping ratio of soil layers.
