Prediction of Low Frequency Ground Vibrations from Underground Tracks in Laboratory

Based on the low frequency vibration tests on a direct -fixation -fastener track (DFT) and a steel spring floating slab track (SSFST) in an underground laboratory in Beijing Jiaotong University , the coupled DFT-tunnel-soil and SSFST-tunnel-soil models are respectively established to further predict the low frequency ground vibrations , using the three-dimensional finite element method. In the numerical models, the discrete excitation frequencies (1,2,... ,20 Hz)and the variable embedded depths(10,18,30 m)of the tracks are considered. Using the regression analysis method ,a prediction formula for vertical and horizontal low frequency ground vibration acceleration levels is de -rived,where the continuous excitation frequencies (1 ~20 Hz) ,the unbroken horizontal distances (0~100 m)to the track and the continuous embedded depths (10~30 m) of the track are all involved. The predicted vibration acceleration levels agree well with the test results. This study could be used as a reference for mitigating the low frequency ground vibrations due to metro operation.
