Field Measurement and Serviceability Evaluation on Top Head Estates of Subway

With the increasing shortage of urban land resources ,the development of reserved top-head platform of car depot has attracted more and more attentions at present. As far as the buildings on top of subway are concerned ,both the dynamic safety under strong earthquake and dynamic ser -viceability subjected to train should be taken into consideration. In this paper, the dynamic effects of train-induced vibrations of buildings on top of subway are investigated based on field measurement. The field measurement was carried out by taken a car depot constructed in China as an example. The dynamic responses of a five-story office building and a nine-story residential building over the subway platform are collected and thereby utilized to examine the structural serviceability. The made observations indicate that the dynamic responses of these two buildings increase with the increasing structural height, and vibration in vertical direction is 3 to 9 times larger than those in the horizontal directions. The vibration serviceability of the top head estates of subway is evaluated based on the specifications in ISO 10137. The analytical results indicate that the vibration serviceability of the first three floors of the office building and the first floor of the residential building do not meet the requirements in corresponding codes. The observations can be taken as the references for the assess -ment of the dynamic serviceability of top head estates of subway.
