Quantitative Evaluation of Underground Trainnnduced Vibration in Frame Structure

A methodology for the quantitative determination of underground train -induced vibrations in a frame structure with consideration of multi -support excitations is presented. Since the building nearby a subway line in Shanghai is in planning stage , it is impossible to make a direct measurement of the building vibrations induced by underground trains. Two-dimensional finite element model is developed, using the results of a ground vibration measurement campaign purposely performed at the site as input excitations. The vibration levels in the structure are obtained to multi -support excitation, and the levels for traveling wave excitation and uniform excitation are also ,respectively, calculated so that the comparison of the vibration levels in the building to the three types of excitations can be made. Results indicate that using uniform excitation as inputs to design the short -span structures with consideration of underground train -induced vibrations is conservative.
