Dynamic Analysis of Multi-span Viaducts under the Passage of the Train Using a Substructure Approach
This paper deals with the dynamic analysis of simply supported multi -span railway viaducts subjected to moving trains. The Component Mode Synthesis (CMS) method is adopted to provide a reduced-order model of the viaduct to reduce the computational cost. The reduced-order model of the viaduct is subsequently used for dynamic train -bridge interaction analysis. The method is applied to a real test case for which experimental data are available : the Sesia viaduct which is a composite bridge formed by 7 spans. It is proved that the CMS reduced model is able to accurately reproduce the dynamic properties of the entire multi -span viaduct by just considering a finite ele -ment model of one repetitive span.
