Dynamic Instability of a Simply-supported Arch Model with Elastic Restraints under Sudden Loading
This paper investigates the dynamic instability of a simply -supported arch model system with elastic restraints under sudden loading of infinite duration. When the system is subjected to a sudden loading, the load imparts kinetic and deformation energy to the system and induces it to os -cillate. When the loading is sufficiently large ,the oscillation may reach the unstable primary or sec -ondary equilibrium path of the system and the system experiences an escaping -motion type of buckling. Nonlinear dynamic buckling of the system model is investigated using an equation of motion method and an energy method in this paper. The energy criteria for the dynamic buckling loads are presented. It is found that using the energy method for dynamic buckling does not need the solutions of the equations of motion. The results for dynamic buckling loads obtained by the energy method , and by the equation of motion method ,are consistent with each other.
