Analytical Model of Flexible Pavement Rutting in Cameroonian Highways

Design and construction agencies in developing countries are facing new challenges with social pressures to solve the dual problem of constant demands on highway networks and extensive costs required for construction and rehabilitation. Agencies dealing with corrective rehabilitation pro -grams have started to integrate preventive strategies in their pavement preventive maintenance. The present research work gives to local highway practitioners a simple understanding of the rutting process of flexible pavements when subjected to different environmental conditions of construction and exploitation, an understanding that helps them to predict the rutting characteristics and the func -tionality of flexible pavements under specific conditions. The superposition method in each layer of the pavement and the elasto-visco-plastic model of pavement materials is used in finite element analysis so that effects on various parameters on the rutting process such as stresses and deforma -tions are investigated and controlled. Results presented in this work have fostered local highway au -thorities to plan for their implementation on various design rehabilitation projects in the country.
