Analysis of Vibration Isolation for Gibson Ground Using WIB
The project on the isolation of man-made vibration is becoming a special concern in the civil and environmental engineering field. The system of wave impedance block (WIB) , which is one of the effective countermeasures to isolate the ground vibration ,has been gradually applied to the en -gineering practice. In this paper,the efficiency of vibration isolation for Gibson ground by WIB in a three-dimensional (3D) context is studied. The analysis is accomplished with the aid of a 3D semi— analytical boundary element method (BEM) based on thin4ayered method (TLM) , on which the Greens function is regarded as fundamental solution of a stratified half-space. Then the active isolation effectiveness by WIB is studied in elastic half-space. The paper in detail studied relevant parameters in the design of 3D WIB isolation in Gibson elastic half-space. The results indicated that increasing the thickness and modulus of WIB is the two most effective ways to get a good effect of isolation. And the Gibson grounds properties have some influence on the effect of isolation. Moreover , increasing the diameter of WIB can obviously diminish the amplitude of ground vibration around the WIB,while the effect of WIB on outside ones is more complex.
