E-government and Trust in Government in China
Trust in government is very important to political legitimacy and social stability. Recently, many countries face the dilemma of decreasing trust in government. Based on theoretical frameworks of enterprise paradigm and participatory paradigm, many countries utilize E-government to enhance public trust in government. However, can E-government improve public trust in government? According to the data of performance evaluation of 300 city government websites, this paper aims to answer the question using the hypotheses test method of structural equation model. The results show that public trust in government is positively associated with E-service and E-transparency. This study also finds that Eservice can exert an indirect influence on public trust in government through E-transparency. These results have some implications about how governments can enhance public trust in government.
