Study on Community Participation in the Design and Planning of Urban Public Space
Based on the current problems existing in the design and planning of urban public spaces in China, this study reflects the common social needs, and follows the modern management mechanism. It starts with the introduction to the transition in Chinese society and the change of urban social management, and points out the necessity and the significance of community participation in the design and planning of urban public spaces, which is both a reflection of good governance to the management of the design and planning and a new concept of development. This paper attempts to build a pattern of community participation in the design and planning of urban public spaces, puts forward the process of community participation and proposes some suggestions on developing community participation appropriately. In China, the design and planning of urban public spaces by making full use of community participation mechanisms will not only help to offset the lack of the traditional mode in the design and planning, but also realize the core goals of people foremost and city construction for sustainable development beyond material update.
