Developing Scales for Face Sensitivity and Face Saving Behavior, and Examining their Structural Relationship
The purpose of this paper is to develop scales for measuring face sensitivity and face saving behavior, and to examine the effect of face sensitivity on face saving behavior within the context of Korean government organizations. Face(Chemyon) is very unique for Korean public servants, since they are penalized by law if they commit misconduct losing their face. Because of it, they are to be conscious of interacting behavior with others as well as their own ethical behavior. Despite such importance, there have been no scales to measure these concepts. Thus this paper first took a construct validation process of the measurement items to develop the scales. We extracted six 1st order factors of face sensitivity and two factors of face saving behavior. Once confirming construct validity of these factors, we investigated their structural relationship using Structural Equation Model. The results demonstrated an acceptable model fit measures and five factors of face sensitivity have statistically significant effect on face saving behaviors.
