Study on the Leisure Involvement of Rural Residents
With the development and reinforcement of programs to construct new socialist countryside in China, researches on leisure life of the rural population have gradually become an academic focus. Though studies can be found concerning leisure involvement in foreign literatures, few gives concern to the leisure involvement of rural residents. This paper tries to explain leisure involvement, one aspect of the leisure behavior study, by taking the rural residents in northeast China as an example, hoping to have a better understanding of the present situation and differences among rural residents on leisure involvement. This study suggests that leisure involvement reflects individuals general understanding of leisure activities, which reveals the importance and pleasure of such activities to a person, his self-expression in the activities, and the connection of the activities to his life network. The more actively an individual is involved in a leisure activity, the more likely he will continue to participate in it. The leisure involvement of rural residents in northeast China also demonstrates differences caused by variations in personal background.
