A Credible Social Responsibility Management Approaches for Multinational Oil and Gas Companies in Overseas Projects
This paper examines and discusses the various impacts and aspects of a social responsible management system in multinational oil and gas companies in oil prospecting and production; the impacts it has had so far on general development in their host communities or area of productions, with specific focus on the social and economic issues and their impacts among different stakeholders. The authors write and report on the basis of personal field and working experience on efforts that need made by oil companies towards their various host communities with the aim and objective of addressing and managing the stresses arising from the activities of this development such as the exploration and drilling of oil on land and offshore which involves a great deal on alteration of land surface, surface water as well as ground water and soil environment and farmland. Particular study interest is the responsible and sustainably way of managing the deteriorating relationship among the oil producing communities that have resulted in rivalries between these communities, oil companies and on the other side of the government. The results of this study indicate that, as much as Oil development and production is a strong boost to any countries economy and an unprecedented growth in global oil and gas sector, it is perceived to have had with uneven benefits to resource host communities. Communities (will) experience negative impacts including rapid population growth, a growing cost of living, increases in crime, and external pressures on local cultural practices and livelihood amenities, these negative impacts are felt primarily at the local level. The work presented here highlights the nature of tensions that arise when international companies commence activity in small, rural communities in developing nations and additionally it identified how if properly managed, such local social development activity will creates, sustains, and reinforces broader scale globalization processes thereabout bringing a safer working relationship within the stakeholders and sustainability.
