Break Mechanism and Risk Assessment of Tailing Dams under the Earthquake

The safe operation of tailings is important for metal and non-metal mining enterprises and the stability research of the tailings which consider the impact of seismic response are rare. Aiming at the current status of tailing dam landslide, collapse, cracking, etc. in 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake disaster area, the paper studied the evolution rule of typical accident patterns such as seismic liquefaction and dynamic instability under the dynamic conditions, etc. The way and the model of seismic dam-break were also summarized. 13 tailing dams in Sichuan Province were selected as the sample, and analyzed the correlation between 13 indexes in methods of index relativity numerical analysis. The risk assessment model of tailing dam-break which based on fuzzy theory was established, and divided the operation safety level of tailing dams. Using of safety assessment, the safety current status for Tangjia Tailing dam of the Hanyuanjintai mining enterprise is analyzed which can provided the reference to determine the risk assessments level of important residential areas and facilities for downstream villages and mining companies.
