Application of Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) in Air Traffic Control
Air traffic control system plays an irreplaceable role in ensuring air safety and its smooth operation; however, accidents caused by individual behavior keep rising in recent years. Exploring the characteristics of air traffic control system, the paper applies the principle of Behavior Based Safety to accident prevention system in air traffic control. An analysis of BBS implementation over 14 weeks finds that the controllers behavior safety index rises from 65.82% to 72.79%, representing a big benefit. With continuous improvement in management system and hardware system, BBS can be used as an effective way to enhance control performance on the part of air traffic controllers.
