Synthesis, Characterization and Performance Evaluation of Copper(I) 5-nitrotetrazole (CuNT)-
A new green primary explosive copper(I) 5-nitrotetarzole was synthesized from cuprous chloride, sodium 5-nitrotetrazole, tec. Synthesized CuNT was characterized by SEM, EDS, FT-IR, UV, volumetric analysis method and element analysis. The chemical stability of CuNT in wet and hot environment was evaluated in comparison to mercuric 5-nitrotetrazole (MNT). It showed the similar good ability of the chemical stability. The DSC profile indicated the thermal stability of CuNT up to 300℃, and the explosion temperature for 5s of CuNT was 351 ℃. It revealed its higher thermally sensitive in comparison to that of MNT, BNCP and lead styphnate (LTNR), while the same with lead azide (LA). Fiction sensitivity data showed higher sensitivity of CuNT. However, it was insensitive to impact, flame and static discharge. The 50% firing current of hot bridgewire sensitivity was 354 J. In some initiating devices, CuNT may be a substitute for LA and LTNR.
