Study on the Catalytic Effect of TiC Nanoparticles on the Thermal Decomposition of Ammonium Perchlorate

This work reported on the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate activated by addition of TiC nanoparticles. AP/TiC nanocomposites were prepared by a novel solvent-non solvent method. The SEM and SEMEDX results show that AP covers the surface of TiC nanoparticles and these methods were used to characterize of their morphology, structure and composition. The catalytic effect of TiC nanoparticles on the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP) were investigated by differential thermal analyzer (DTA) and Thermogravimery. Compared with the thermal decomposition of pure AP, the addition of TiC nanoparticles (2.5wt %) decreases the decomposition temperature of AP by 59.97℃. The kinetic parameters were evaluated using Kissinger, Ozawa, Friedman and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa methods. The decrease in the activation energy confirmed the catalytic activity of these nanoparticles.
