Effect of Graphite on Mechanical Sensitivity and Detonation Velocity of RDX

Experimental studies on impact sensitivity, friction sensitivity and detonation velocity of RDX mixed with different proportions of two types of graphite were carried out.The results showed that the larger particle size of graphite with different proportions reduced the impact sensitivity of RDX, and the friction sensitivity increased firstly and then decreased with the increase of graphite content;while the smaller particle size of graphite significantly reduced the impact sensitivity of RDX and friction sensitivity.Simultaneously, with the increase of graphite content, the detonation velocity decreased more significantly. The experimental results have an important role in guiding the safety of synthetic ultrafine carbon materials under detonation as well as the optimizing formulation.
