Detonation Behavior of ANFOs and Emulsion Explosives

To understand the detonation behavior of the AN-based composite non-ideal explosives accurately, the detonation velocity of ANFO were measured. New type oil was used to make ANFO, which can significantly increase detonation performance of ANFO. The detonation sensitivity of Expanded AN-based ANFO can be increased for much pore on the particle surface. Emulsion explosive also was showed non-ideal detonation behavior and the detonation velocity vs. charge density was mentioned. Emulsion explosives’ oil film was destroyed in the condition of high pressure and temperature. The behavior of ANFO and emulsion explosives showed a marked difference from that of high explosives. The reason of ANFOs’ and emulsion explosives’ detonation velocity decreased was illustrated. Gas production and energy diffusion was influenced the peak energy released near the detonation front. A new concept was proposed to interpret the dead-pressing of ANFO and emulsion explosives that a large amount of water vapor exist in the reaction zone was inhibited the ammonium nitrate decomposition, which leaded to energy release decreased and caused rarefaction wave increased.
