Researches on RF Protection for Semiconductor Bridge EEDs Using Ferrite Beads
The ferrite beads are used to protect semiconductor bridge (SCB) EEDs against RF energy induced firing. It is demonstrated that SCB EEDs in series with ferrite beads can ignite reliably under capacitor discharge condition. RF experiment shows that the sensitive RF frequency of SCB EEDs is 400MHz. At this frequency, the all-fire RF power of typical SCB EEDs is 17.06 W by Langley sensitive test. While none of the SCB EEDs in series with ferrite beads fire even RF power is 24.0W. All of the low ignition energy SCB EEDs without ferrite beads fire under 13.0W RF power, while none of the low ignition energy SCB EEDs in series with ferrite beads fire even RF power is 17.0W. The results indicate that the ferrite bead is effective for protecting an SCB EED against inadvertent RF energy when the SCB EED is exposed to high power RF energy.
