New Method of High-g Testing for Explosive Initiator
This paper is to present a new method to testing the behavior of initiating explosive under high-g environment. Copper was used as pulse shaper to conduct the Hopkinson pressure bar experiment. Both the experiment and numerical simulation were performed with different diameters and thickness and under different striking velocities, moreover, the comparison was conducted. The study showed that duration of acceleration can be extended by prolonging the time the shaper deformed plastically. Conclusions were that the acceleration duration can be increased by adding a pulse shaper in the front of the incident bar. This technique supplies the method to test the reliability and the security of initiating explosive under different overload condition, besides, it is useful for developing the initiator and evaluating its performance.
