Study of Particle Size and Gradation on the Modified AN Sensitivity
In order to ascertain the relationship between the part of sensitivities with the particle sizes and the gradations of modified AN, the impact and friction sensitivities of modified AN with different particle sizes were tested by referring to the criterion GJB772A—97 and the detonator sensitivities of modified AN with different gradations were researched in this paper. The experiment results show that the particle sizes of modified AN have an obvious effect on the impact and friction sensitivities, and the impact and friction sensitivities increase with the increment of particle size of modified AN in a range, besides, the impact and friction sensitivities will decrease with the increment of particle size when the particle size of modified AN exceed certain range, the particle gradation is an important factor for the impact and friction sensitivities of modified AN, the modified AN with different particle gradation do not completely follow this rule to effect the performance of explosives, and the different particle gradation very possibly cause different impact and friction sensitivities under the same average diameter, the detonator sensitivity can be increased by changing the particle gradation of modified AN, especially increases the mass percent of modified AN particle which the diameter less than 0.074mm.
