Study on Interior Ballistic Two-phase Flow Dynamics with Fracture of Propellant Charge

The launch safety accidences are mainly induced by the fracture of propellant grains at project base in low temperature. According to the fracture law of propellant grain, which are obtained by compression and fracture test and the simulation of fracture dynamics of propellant charge, the interior ballistic two-phase flow model which considers fragment of propellant grains is established in this paper, and the method is used to simulate the combustion and mechanics situation for short gun, the simulation results have a good agreement with the test results. In this paper, the breech and base pressure are simulated with the fragment of propellant charge, and the results show that the pressures rise sharply, then the abnormal pressure appears. These phenomenon may lead to bore burst. Therefore, the simulation method can provide theory foundation for the study of launch safety of propellant charge.
