Study on the Smoke Based on Metal-coated Carbon Fibers to Camouflage 8 Millimeters Wave

Nickel-coated carbon fibers (CFs) of a series of different layer content were fabricated with electroless plating method, and the process of continuous electroless plating CFs was studied. The morphology and thickness of metal layer were examined by SEM, and the apparent resistance was measured. A continuous layer has already been formed when the ratio of weight increasing reaches to 0.3 and the apparent resistance of CFs tends to a definite value of 4Ω /dm with the ratios increasing greater than equal to 0.7. Smoke materials composed of Nickel-coated or copper-coated CFs mixing with graphite et al were dispersed by explosion coming from the detonator loaded the appropriate pyrotechnics, and their attenuation was obtained by testing attenuation system for 8 millimeters wave (MMW). The results show that the attenuation of smoke based on nickel-coated CFs 4mm in length increases with the ratio of weight increasing of CFs improved from 0.3 to 0.7. To 8 millimeters wave, the attenuation of compound of Cu-coated flakes and graphite as a good infrared smoke agent is small, but after being mixed with Ni-coated CFs 4mm in length, the attenuation is the most that is 14.5dB, which is further proved by a principle testing cartridge with the attenuation≥10dB.
