Drug Transporter-mediated Pharmacokinetics and Toxicities

Drug transporters are expressed ubiquitously in tissues, such as the intestine, liver, kidney, and brain, and play an important role in drug absorption, distribution, elimination of most xenobiotics, drugs, environmental toxins, as well as their metabolites. In clinical, it can affect the pharmacokinetics by transporter-drug-drug interactions and/or produce toxic effects by transporter* dependent inhibition. Function characteristics of drug transporters and transporter-based toxicity study will provide helpful information to enhance drug delivery efficiency or design novel drug by targeting specific transporter. In this presentation, the significant role performed by human drug transporter in drug disposition and toxicity will be fully discussed, focusing on their potential application at the stage of drug discovery and development.
