Relationship Satisfaction in Outsourcing Relationships: Some Insights from the Electrical and Electronic Sector of Malaysia
This paper tests empirically the determinants of relationship satisfaction in an outsourcing environment among 203 electronic and electrical firms in Malaysia. Multiple regressions were used to test hypotheses generated from a model which was based on the social exchange theory. Findings indicate that supplier relationship-specific investments and relational norms have significant positive relationships with relationship satisfaction, while as expected, opportunistic behavior had a significant negative relationship with relationship satisfaction. Contrary to conventional view, buyer relationship specific investments showed an inverse relationship with relationship satisfaction. Implications of findings were discussed and suggestions for future research presented.
