Fatigue damage monitoring of full scale aircraft using Acoustic Emission
A full-scale aircraft structure fatigue test was carried out and acoustic emission technique was used to monitor the fatigue crack initiation in real-time during the test. AE sensors were mounted at the critical positions. Parameter analysis method was used to process the AE data and the crack was detected by AE. The fatigue crack monitored by acoustic emission was confirmed by eddy current and visual inspection. The successive prediction of a crack in the monitoring area demonstrates the potential value of acoustic emission technique for detecting damage in full-scale aircraft fatigue test under complicated background environment.
