Experimental Research on Acoustic Emissions Characteristics of Rolling Bearings on Giant Wheel Simulation Device

Rolling element bearings fault is the most common cause of rotating machinery failure. This paper presents results of an investigation to assess the potential of the Acoustic Emission (AE) technology for monitoring health status of rolling element bearings on giant wheel. To undertake this task a special device was built in order to simulate the operating conditions of giant wheel. The acoustic emission experiment of the slow speed bearings was carried on the simulation device in the laboratory. The whole experiment was divided into three stages according to trend analysis of statistic AE parameters of acquisition signals. The paper investigates AE signals of feature points in trend curve also analyses their parameter features and wave spectrum characteristics. In conclusion, the results from this investigation show that application of AE technology to detect rolling bearings on giant wheel is reasonable.
