Processing and properties of SWNT/PBO composite fibres
introduction of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) into the PBO backbone might lead to further improvements in physical properties. Therefore, SWNT was cut and functionalized by three oxidative cutting methods. The length of SWNTs affected their dispersion and reaction activity. Short SWNTs could react with the PBO polymer more easily and form more covalent bonds. SWNT/PBO composite fibers were prepared by dry-jet wet spinning. The thermal resistance of the SWNT/PBO fibers was higher than that of PBO and the tensile strength was also improved.
