Effect of soluble polyimide coating on the UV stability of PBO fibers

A soluble trifluoromethyl modified polyimide (TF-PI) with excellent UV (Ultraviolet) blocking properties was used as coatings on Poly-p-phenylenebenzobisoxazole (PBO) fiber. After exposed to UV light for 13 days, the tensile strength retention of TF-PI/PBO fiber was improved to 54%, which is 23% higher than that of PBO fiber. TF-PI combined with nano TiO2 can further improve the UV stability. A concrete TF-PI coating formed on the surface of PBO fiber avoid the disruption of the micro-fibril structure under UV radiation and improve the UV stability of PBO fiber.
