White-Light-Emitting silk fibroin films of CdTe and ZnSe quantum dots
ZnSe and CdTe quantum dots (QDs) aqueous solutions have been successfully prepared by hydrothermal routes using 3-mercaptopropionic acid as surface-stabilizing agent. Careful control of the molar ratio of ZnSe and CdTe QDs solution allowed to balance the strength of the relative blue and yellow light emissions, thereby attaining white-light-emitting QDs solution. QDs silk film was obtained by the mixture of (ZnSe)x/CdTe QDs and silk fibroin solution. The luminescent properties of the QDs silk film were highly dependent on the molar ratio of ZnSe and CdTe QDs. With raising the ZnSe content, blue light intensity systematically increased. Its found that white-light-emitting silk film was obtained from (ZnSe)30/CdTe QDs. Moreover, we discovered that the partial excitation energy transfer from ZnSe QDs to the CdTe QDs in silk fibroin film. The QDs silk films offer unique advantages, including simple preparation, tunable white-light emission, easy manipulation, and low fabrication costs, which might be a promising candidate for an illumination light source in medical imaging application.
