Evaluating the elderly care community services in Shanghai
This article discusses about how does social services are developing in Shanghai when the ageing society is coming. It analyses the development of elderly care policy and community services with empirical data from ageing profile statistics, policy documents and qualitative fieldwork. It finds Shanghai aged care community services provision, funding and challenges are similar to developed countries. The rapid changes in Shanghai community services in the last ten years suggest that the differences in the welfare system in the past were due to the level of economic development and internationalisation. While Shanghai is one of the most developed parts of China, the research indicates that the establishment of social services in the rest of China is likely to follow a similar trajectory over time.
