Study on the Resource Base of Timber Industry in China
Based on the perspective of industrial competitiveness, this paper systematically studied the resource base of Chinese timber industry. The concept and the categories of resources were firstly defined, followed by the meaning of resource base. The contribution of resources was then theoretically analyzed so that its theoretical basis has been expanded in view of competitiveness sustainability and marginal revenue to indicate that the development mode led by intangible resources is the decisive factor for timber industry to establish a lasting competitive advantage. Third, an empirical analysis was made on the contribution of resources systematically. By means of econometric models, this paper calculated the contribution rate of production factors of wood processing industry, furniture manufacturing industry and papermaking and paper products industry separately, revealing that tangible resource plays a leading role in the development of Chinese timber industry. Finally, according to the empirical results, the idea was put forward that the resource base of Chinese timber industry should be converted, that is, to mainly achieve the transition of the tangible resource-led development mode to the intangible resource-led development mode.
