Lightweight Design of Inner Vessel for the Semi-trailer of Cryogenic Liquid

Lightweight of the semi-trailer inner vessel for cryogenic liquid is essential for the lightweight design of the vehicle. Considering strain strengthening characteristics of the inner vessel material, inelastic finite element analysis was done for its cylinder and head according to the true stress-strain curve of the material. The thicknesses of the cylinder and head were determined by the ultimate loading capacity of the structure with reasonable safety factor prescribed in the code of design by analysis. The shakedown criterion was discussed for the knuckle region of the torispherical head. And the yield limit obtained by the strain strengthening during the pneumatic pressure test was suggested for the determination of the allowable stress which would be used in the evaluation of the plastic stability of the high-stress region. It was found that the inner vessel weight can be effectively reduced by the proposed design method.
