Mechanical Analysis and Kinematics Simulation for Micro-Motion Mechanism Based on Self-Locking Roller

Micro-Motion Mechanism is widely used in the area of micro/nano-fabrication, precision positioning, biomedical engineering and so on. Based on self-locking roller, a novel inchworm micro-motion mechanism (IW3M) is introduced, which is composed of driven cam, self-locking roller, front and back sliders, in this paper. The distance between front and back sliders is periodicity changed by driven cam with servo motor. With the inner wall of working channel, two over-running mechanisms are respectively formed on the front and back sliders by self-locking rollers, which are fixed on both sides of front and back sliders. On the drive of cam mechanism, micro motion of front and back sliders is generated in single direction with the function of overrunning mechanism. Based on self-locking roller, the structure model of inchworm micro-motion mechanism (SLR-IW3M) is established. By means of finite element analysis and solid works, strength of self-locking roller is checked, while kinematics simulation for SLR-IW3M model is achieved. Working principle and motion precision validated. With characters of mechanical-single, simple and steady, the driving need of various channels inner creeping can be meet fully by SLR-IW3M.
