A Multibody Model with Flexible Joints of Roller Chain
Roller chain was widely used in power transmission applications, but its complex dynamic characteristics have not been well researched. In this paper, a multibody model with flexible joints is developed and applied to the simulation and analysis of roller chain drives of large-caliber naval gun. The model also includes the contact-impact between rollers and sprockets, and contact-impact between chain plates and bilateral guide-bars. In the contact-impact analysis, non-linear contact theory was utilized to evaluate the contact-impact forces which are included in system dynamic equations. A difference from previous roller-sprocket contact-impact analysis is that the complete tooth profile of sprocket is considered. The study provides an effective method for the dynamic analysis of roller chain, the geometry of the tooth profile of sprocket.
