Analysis of Mechanical Fatigue Caused by Alternating Inertial Force

Broken accidents of a small locking tooth in high firing-rate auto-cannon usually occurred in firing process. This tooth is almost free from large external forces in normal operating conditions. It plays a supporting and positioning role for the carrier located on it. The stiffness and strength demand should be in its safe range. In this work, the paper checks small tooths strength by finite element analysis. Then analysis of impact is done with virtual prototype simulation, when the strength is enough. And it is found that the alternating inertial force of locking tooth is the main factor to cause the fatigue fracture. The location of the fatigue fracture and fatigue life was analyzed through the finite element analysis, and the analysis results are consistent with the fracture failure and fatigue life in test. This result is useful not only in the analysis of the affect of inertial force in the autocannon with alternating high-speed movement, but also in guiding the mechanism analysis with similar working environment.
