Experimental and Numerical Investigation into the Internal Blast in Explosion Chamber

To study the complex pressure flow filed and blast loading on the inner wall after charges exploded in cylindrical chamber, dynamic test system was used to obtain the overpressure time history of test points. ANSYS/LS-DYNA was also used to simulate the internal explosion, the interior overpressure distribution can be observed at real time and the simulated overpressure time history of test points and selected feature points were gained. Experimental and numerical results had good consistency. Multiple reflection and superposition of shock fronts are salient features of internal explosion. For cylindrical explosion chamber(length-to-diameter ratio=1), when spherical or cylindrical (L/D≈1) charge exploded at the geometric center, points which undergo maximum peak overpressure are the center of flat heads, and small deviation of charge position can make great impact on the second and subsequent peak overpressure of those two points. Superposition of shock fronts is the reason why overpressure increase significantly.
