The Development of Economical Hydroforming Technology
Hydroforming is an effective manufacturing method to make tubular parts of different configuration. However, China Auto parts maker has hardly used the hydroforming technology because the huge capital investment and high manufacturing cost of hydroformed parts. In order to promote the application of hydroforming technology in China Automotive industry, Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NJUST) develops the economical hydroforming technologies. The technologies include the development of economic hydroforming machine, simplification of production tooling design and the usage of hydroforming processes simulation. The paper also introduces HM series compact hydroforming machine and the related tools developed in NJUST and their strategies in developing the economic HF machine and the tooling design. The HM series compact hydroforming machine has been used in the Auto part production in China, and the manufacturing cost of each hydroformed part is almost approach to the stamping part.
